College Culture Experiences

During the month of October we celebrated and exposed our students to Colleges and Universities. This year our student lead assemblies shared information about Howard University, Oakland University, University of Michigan and Michigan State University. The spotlight includes information about the school: majors, demographics, mascot, activities, sports, famous alumni including staff and school fight songs. We also had door decorations in the Middle School Hall of historically Black colleges and universities .  On Tuesday November 3, 2015 the School Counselor and staff were able to take 42 middle school students to Michigan State University where they learned about the admission process, toured campus and dined at Brody Hall. The students had a wonderful college readiness experience.  GO GREEN, GO WHITE, GO MSU!!!!!  These efforts are apart of a statewide initiative for school counselors to teach students about college earlier in grades K-8.  It’s never to early to start college planning! Several PACE Academy National Junior Honor Society students attended the trip.
